once again having made a misidentifiaction of female mergansers, putting
my east coast knowledge onto west coast -

I have a female hummingbird, noticeably larger than the rufous, bright
green, with a small white patch behind her eye. She is white below,
with gray on the sides. The male rufous chase her off, but she finally
comes back to the feeders after the boys are done.

I have, very tentatively, decided this must be a female Anna's.

OK - now everyone tell me I am wrong and why! Since I only ever had
ruby-throats, I am in awe of the hummers out here.
