Lots of Orange-Crowned Warblers singing today (7 Apr, 07), but just spotted our first of the year BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER, also
feeding amongst the big-leaf maple flowers. This matches our earliest arrival date for 3 out of the last 20 years, with that 20
year average first date here being April 11th.
Totally missing our spot this year are any number of yellow-rumped warblers. We do have our highest numbers of pine siskins and
evening grosbeaks for the year-to-date, some red crossbills and still some varied thrushes coming to feeders. Band-tailed pigeon
numbers are increasing.
