I hate it when this happens.........

I forgot one really good species when I posted our sightings in Wasco county
on Saturday. We saw a WESTERN KINGBIRD on Eightmile Rd., north of Dufur,
and then two more birds east of Dufur.

We also saw CANADA GEESE WITH GOSLINGS at Rock Creek Res.

Good birding, everyone,

OBOL:

On Saturday, Carol Karlen & Paul Sullivan spent the day in Wasco county. We
began in Mosier at 9:20 and found our first WESTERN BLUEBIRDS on the way to
Tom McCall Preserve above Rowena. There we looked down on a circling
PEREGRINE FALCON, a passing SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, plus many Tree &
Violet-green Swallows. Down at Meyer St. Pk. we found a fishing CASPIAN
TERN.

In The Dalles we found nesting OSPREY. On riverside rocks below Celilo we
found an immature BALD EAGLE. On the river were the usual Greater and
Lesser Scaup, Common Goldeneye, but only one Western Grebe.

Up on Eightmile Rd. we found our first LEWIS WOODPECKERS of the day. At the
cemetery just north of Dufur we found a nesting GREAT HORNED OWL. Dufur had
2 SAY'S PHOEBES, CINNAMON TEAL, and more swallows.

We hit the real bonanza at the private wetland off Price Rd. north of Wamic:
Turkey Vulture,
18 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE,
Canada Geese, Mallard, American Wigeon, Pintail, Shoveler, Gadwall,
Green-winged Teal, Cinnamon Teal, Lesser Scaup, Ringneck, Bufflehead, Ruddy
Duck,
Red-tailed Hawk, Northern Harrier,
VIRGINIA RAIL, Coot,
1 Killdeer, 4 Greater Yellowlegs, 1 LEAST SANDPIPER
Red-winged Blackbird, YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD,
and up the road, a Wilson's Snipe. (but no herons, marsh wrens, or
yellowthroats.)

At Pine Hollow Reservoir we found many fishermen and a flying OSPREY, plus
4 COMMON LOONS in breeding plumage.

Up the road we found more LEWIS WOODPECKERS.

At Rock Creek Reservoir we found 3 more COMMON LOONS in breeding plumage,
plus VARIED THRUSH and a SPOTTED TOWHEE to close out the day.

On the way home we drove through rain, snow, rain, dry pavement, and a
glorious sunset between Wasco county and Sandy. 'Twas a great day.

Good birding, everyone,

Paul Sullivan
Carol Karlen
