The link for FCC tower-kill comments provided in an earlier post did not work when I tried it on my connection. Let me provide this direct link and instruction for anyone to make a brief text comment, or alternatively attach a document-file letter. The FCC has an electronic submission web site:
http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/ecfs/
Then click "submit a filing" in the "Main Links" column at the right. It's all-important to fill in theFCC Docket no. at the top of the filing page. The correct number is: Docket No. 03-187 which is titled: "Effects of Communication Towers on Migratory Birds." I have recently submitted the joint comments on behalf of 15 members of our Urban Treaty for Conservation of Migratory Birds Portland Partnership (with USFWS). Signatory Members include several local Friends Groups, Portland Audubon Chapter, ODFW, and City of Portland, also signed by Mayor Potter.
It's fine to tell in your own words why migratory birds are valued, and should be protected from the dangers of tower collisions to the greatest extent possible. An important background to this is: The Migratory Bird Treaty Act prohibits the taking, killing, possession, transportation, and importation of migratory birds, their eggs, parts, and nests, except when specifically authorized by the Department of the Interior.
