A CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD visited my feeder numerous times throughout the day
today (April 24). Since planting a twinberry bush a couple of years ago,
hummingbird activity here has increased. Twinberry has a pretty yellow
tubular flower. It flowered from spring through summer last year, providing
a long-lasting source of nectar. This morning, one of the local ANNA'S
HUMMINGBIRDS hovered just a few inches in front of my face, checking me out
when I was standing near the bush. I am fairly sure that a pair nested in
my yard last year. This year, the male has been delivering his fizzy
serenade from near the top of a holly tree, so I suspect they will nest here
again.

A FOX SPARROW passed through the yard this morning. They have visited my
yard sporadically throughout the winter/spring season. I last saw one quite
a few weeks ago.
