New Klamath Bird Trail Brochure Available
Just about everything a resident or visitor would want to know about birdwatching in the Klamath Basin is contained in a colorful, free brochure published by the Klamath Basin Birding Trail Working Group. Key information in the 48 page publication includes descriptions and maps of all 47 birding sites identified along the 300 mile trail. The Klamath Basin Birding Trail was developed to help birders locate the prime sites to observe birds in the Upper Klamath Basin. Color photographs in the leaflet show the diversity of birdlife in the Basin. The leaflet also contains a checklist of over 350 bird species along with the seasonal abundance and likelihood of observing each type of bird.
In addition to a map of the two major driving loops comprising the birding trail, the publication lists services and facilities available at each highlighted location. Some of the sites such as Crater Lake National Park and Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge will be familiar to most people. The leaflet also feature little-know birding hotspots such as Juanita lake, Seven Mile Guard Station, Surveyor Mountain and Big Springs Park (in Bonanza). A section of the leaflet addresses frequently asked questions about birding in the Klamath Basin including the timing of bird migrations, where to see owls and hummingbirds, and when and where to see dancing grebes.
The free publication is available from the Travel Klamath office a 205 Riverside Drive in Klamath Falls, OR 97601or call: 1(800) 445-6728; www.travelklamath.org. The Klamath Basin Birding Trail also maintains a web site at http//.www.klamthbirdingtrails.org.
