This morning we had a male CALLIOPE in the back yard (in Peoria, beside the
Willamette, in Linn Co.). This is the third time in the last five years
that we've had at least one visit, with the males showing up beginning
mid-April and the females about a month later (in our very limited sample).
Also had a BULLOCK'S ORIOLE sitting in the birch tree where one nested two
years ago.
Other migrant backyard arrivals this year:
TURKEY VULTURE, Feb. 5
TREE SWALLOW, Feb. 17
RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD, male, Feb. 27
VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW, Mar. 14
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, Mar. 31
OSPREY, April 1
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, April 1
COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, April 2
COWBIRD, April 9
CLIFF SWALLOW, April 9
ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW, April 14
VAUX SWIFT (only one, and not seen again), April 14
We still have some WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, and many GOLDENCROWNS.
