After a very quiet birding walk around Molalla River State Park this afternoon I was returning to my car when I located a RUFFED GROUSE. The bird was in the sun very near the edge of a blackberry hedge and moved partially into the blackberries when it saw me. I had nice looks but as soon as I moved it disappeared into the bush. This is the first sighting I've had of R. Grouse anywhere near that area.

A week or so ago there was a discussion on OBOL about a R. Grouse at Sandy River Delta. I wanted to add that I did have a sighting of a RUFFED GROUSE at Sandy River Delta in July of 2000.

Location of today's sighting for anyone who wishes to try:
Enter Park and stop at first parking lot. Follow the walking path across a wooden bridge to a symbolic restroom sign and go about another 10 feet. Look LEFT toward a mostly hidden pond. The grouse was along the blackberry hedge which interfaces between the pond and an open field and not far from the paved path. It was very skittish. I was approaching the parking lot and looking downhill when I saw it.
