Dan and OBOL,
This reminded to post that I have also heard a flock of RED CROSSBILLS
near my house about 3 times in the last month, they were here again
this morning. I live near NE 26th and Alberta in Portland, not too
many mature confiers in the immediate area, but Alberta Park is nearby
and has a good supply.

Hello
There has been a flock of Red Crossbills flying around in the fir trees
for the
past 3 or 4 weeks around my house in Gladstone. I see or here Red
Crossbills
here off and on throughout the year.
Today when I arrived home...as I was leaving the car, there was a flock
at the
top of a nearby fir tree. I watched them fly from the fir, into an oak,
then
down to one of the bird baths in the garden.
It was pretty cool to have them in the garden.
I frequently see or here Red Crossbills at Mt. Tabor this time of
year...so I
guess they are migrating through, like the evening grosbeaks.
Other good birds around here include a (April 23) Hermit Thrush and Fox
Sparrow
and a possible Pacific-slope on April 24.
