Today a private landowner called me to ID two white birds on his recently
drained farm pond - I found two BLACK-NECKED STILTS. He also had 100's of
shorebirds which included 2 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, GREATER AND LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, LEAST AND WESTERN
SANDPIPERS, DUNLIN, LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, - there were birds everywhere.
A pair of BLUE-WINGED TEAL were also at the pond.
Arriving home I found my backyard had been invaded by about two dozen
EVENING GROSBEAKS.
On Saturday (4/28/07) my first BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS arrived ( same
date they have arrived for the last four years).
I still have my five WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS and about fifteen
GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS among the 22 species in the yard today.
A fantastic day with the birds I feel very blessed.
