OBOL:
What should I say? Audubon Birding Weekend in Coos County.
Should I give numbers? 101 species, 17 participants...
Should I list them all? Even the cowbirds?
Or should I hit the highlights?
RED KNOT at Empire on Friday evening -- but only 4 of us saw it. :-(
Marbled Godwits, too.
50 GREAT EGRETS at Millicoma Marsh on Saturday morning
the first returning PURPLE MARTINS to appear at Millicoma this season
and the wonderful noontime sojourn at the viewing deck at Bandon Marsh as
the tide went out and 10,000 SHOREBIRDS came ever closer to us while we
watched and watched and ate lunch and watched.
and the WHITE-TAILED KITE and the HERON ROOKERY on Green Acres Rd. south of
Coos Bay that ended the day.
and the RHINOCEROS AUKLETS in the channel at Empire on Sunday morning
and the fine view from atop Cape Arago, looking on a sunny Pacific, studying
passing loons, shorebirds, etc.
and the 3 kinds of grebes in the south cove of the cape.
and the flock of RED CROSSBILLS at eye level on the south side of the cape.
Or should I mention the fine help of Russ Namitz and Eric Chough?
Or the good humored, enthusiastic participation of all involved? And the
new speccies seen. And the big grins.
Or the excellent weather?
What do you post about a weekend like that?
What a fine weekend we had in Coos county!
