Pelicans north of Royal and once again swifts, swallows and martins
everywhere I looked. I could not relocate the Eared Grebe from the viewing
platform, probably because my scope was getting pretty wet. There was a
female Canvasback on the pond w. of the platform. After much scouring I had
two, possibly three BLACK SWIFTS pass directly overhead about 50' up. I
have seen Black Swifts perhaps a half dozen times at low elevation in the
Willamette and Umpqua Valleys. In every case but one the weather was
exactly as it is today in this part of the valley.
