[obol] Willow Flycatchers still singing

Hi OBOL,
I went out this morning in hopes of recording some of the lesser
known calls of Willow Flycatcher. I got whits from two territories in
willows. In a nearby clearcut, three WIFLs were singing, i.e.,
fitzbew, fizzbew, creet. One guy was on top of a dougfir, throwing
back his head in typical fashion as he belted out the songs. It seems
late in the season; it sounded like early June out there. Eventually
a Yellow-breasted Chat sang too.

These birds were on Izaak Walton Rd, a paved county road that splits
off McBeth Rd about a mile up McBeth from Lorane Hwy. All this
southwest of Eugene. The willows are at the end of county
maintenance, maybe half a mile from McBeth. The clearcut (very grown
up now) is on the right about .3 mi from McBeth. There's no shoulder
on Izaak Walton, but a couple of small paved turnouts. Traffic is
light. Good spot to hear brush birds. Olive-sided Flycatcher is also
regular. I hear it this a.m., too.

Good birding,
Arch McCallum
Eugene
