OBOL,

Annet and I did a bit of moseying around N. Portland and saw the following:

At Vanport Wetlands there were decent numbers of presumed Long-billed
Dowitchers i.e. circa 100 (they were pretty out there --couple hundred
yards--and, with some heat shimmer, that's about all I will hazard.) Too,
there were 3 peeps and for the above reason, I'm leaving it at peeps
(leaning towards Leasts just because they were well up on the flat away
from the water line).

Over at Smith and Bybee there was a single Bonaparte's Gull, a single
Caspian tern, a first for site---MacGillivary's warbler, some Ring-billed
gulls, about 40 or so Pied-billed Grebes (it'll be interesting to see if
they stage there in the hundreds as they did last year), several Osprey
with one adult attacking a Bald Eagle when it got too close to the nest (on
the powerline poles) and ..........3 river otters which were doing well
with the fishing.

Took a very quick at the boat launch area on Smith and the water level
looks promising for the relatively near future.

cheers,
Tom
