[obol] Tree Swallow Migrant Date?

Well Tim, you know me, Mr. Passerine... Personally, in Lakeside in years
past the late date for a solo sighting was August 27th. The last
sighting of 3 or more recorded was July 25th. Here is an interesting
note about Lakeside, we always had full boxes of swallows, generally all
3 were full every year. There was not a single family that stayed put
after two weeks past fledgling.

Here, in the Charleston area, we had no nesters this year but lost our
Tree Swallows the 29th of July. Gone overnight. Barn still sticking of
course.

My Pastor and his wife in Cedar Valley (ex Squaw Valley (CURRY COUNTY))
had 8 boxes full of them and one Violet Green Pair nesting this fine
summer. One set of Trees are still feeding but there was a great
reduction in Tree numbers last Sunday. I counted 3 in flight (this
includes the two adults still feeding).

Hope this is useful info. I think you are really onto something. I am
always happy when Tree Swallows nest on our place but feel sad when I
know they are about to fledge. I always count on them taking off soon after.

BONUS: We still have Vaux's Swifts... :)
