Maybe it's common knowledge that BLACK SWIFTS are at Tumalo Falls west
of Bend, but I don't recall hearing of any sightings there. Someone
probably watched that spot during the survey two years ago. (?)
Anyway, for the record, I was there yesterday (Aug. 5, 2007) watching
the Violet-green Swallows roaming the sky above the falls in early
afternoon. Suddenly two Black Swifts joined the dance, and I had good
looks at eye-level from about 100 ft. I got my bino's on one, hoping
it would go to a nest behind the falls. However, it only circled a
few times, then disappeared up the canyon upstream from the falls. I
don't know where the other bird went.
This all happened just as a minor thunder/rain shower was blowing up
from the south west. Otherwise, there was not a lot of noticeable
bird activity in the area at the time.
