Hi folks,

The following report of a PRAIRIE FALCON just north of Finley NWR
(Benton Co.) on 6 Aug was posted to the mid-Willamette Valley birding
list by Jarod Jebousek. So far as I know, this is unprecedented for the
Willamette Valley in the summer months. Does anyone know of previous
summer records from the valley?

Good birding,
Joel

Hey everybody:

On the way to work Monday I saw a prairie falcon perched on a telephone pole
along Greenberry Road. It flushed and was flying up and to the east as I
drove directly under it, giving me a good view of its distinguishing
features. It must have turned around and made a dive because the next thing
I know, it's flying about 2 feet high over the grass field and passing me on
the left (I was going 60 mph). It got within about 50 yards of some
mourning doves before they flushed. The dove it targeted was saved by a
last second maneuver.
