Obol~
Went down to Bandon Marsh to see if the shorebird diversity had changed over
the last couple of days. The 3 Marbled Godwits have moved on or were
feeding elsewhere. Also peep & dowitcher numbers have increased. Peeps
were not as spread out and were feeding in tigher flocks this morning
(didn't see any falcons). There were a few breeding-plumaged Western
Sandpipers mixed in with all the juveniles.. One had a broken left leg
without bands, but had a USFW metal band on the right leg. Ever try to read
the band # on a feeding sandpiper? I got most of the numbers, but may be
off one or two.
Species list:
45 Black-bellied Plover
150 Semipalmated Plover
5000+ Western Sandpiper
500+ Least Sandpiper
1 Semipalmated Sandpiper
1 Baird's Sandpiper
39 Short-billed Dowitcher (all juveniles except 1 adult)
1 Long-billed Dowitcher
13 Ruddy Turnstone
Good birding,
