This morning I observed a somewhat unconventional feeding flock working the
Locust tree in our front yard in Scappoose, Oregon. The flock consisted of:

Rufous Hummingbird, Selasphorus rufus (one adult male)

Black-capped Chickadee, Poecile atricapilla (two adult)

Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Poecile rufescens (one adult)

Red-breasted Nuthatch, Sitta canadensis (two adult)

Wilson's Warbler, Wilsonia pusilla (one adult male)

This is the first Wilson's I've seen on the property in over a year.

I don't necessarily think the hummingbird was traveling with the flock but
it was certainly working the tree with the rest.

The last Black-headed Grosbeak, Pheucticus melanocephalus, seen on the
property was recorded about a week ago.

Peace and good bird watching,

John E. Riutta
