[obol] Skamania County Migrants and a County first

        Sunday, Aug. 26, was another day of heavy migration at our place
on Mt. Pleasant, Skamania County. The most noticeable birds were the
hundred or so CEDAR WAXWINGS gorging on Cascara berries accompanied by
many WESTERN TANAGERS. WARBLING VIREOS were among the most numerous of
the small passerines with up to six in a single tree at a time. Warblers
included WILSON'S, ORANGE-CROWNED, BLACK-THROATED GRAY, TOWNSEND'S and
our first two YELLOW-RUMPED of the fall.
        We were surprised when two birds moving through the alders, that
Susan first thought might be Bushtits, came in to the open and were PYGMY
NUTHATCHES. This is the first Skamania County record of this species to
my knowledge. They spent at least an hour foraging in the pines in front
of our house and even came down to leaf-bath in the shrubs where we had a
sprinkler going.
