for admittedly poor images of a medium small gull I found today on the
beach in Clatsop County. The gull was less than 1/4 mile south of the
auto access at Del Rey and north of the access at Gearhart. After
watching the gull for a minute, and then photographing it, it flew out
to the ocean just beyond the breakers and into the troughs of the waves
where the Pelicans were feeding. It was 1630 and the sun was in my eyes
partially, so I did not see the bird too well in flight once it got past
the breakers. It showed mostly all dark underwings at the tips and into
the inner primaries. The bill was tipped in red and the legs were dusky
black with some red tones.
Please share your comments. The bird could certainly be staging in the
area with the thousands of others that are here for the summer.
