Obol,
I thought I'd better check out Tom's BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS from last
evening. There were indeed 3 BUFF-BREASTED SP in a flock together today. I
walked north of where the birds were seen last night and did not find any
birds. On my way back towards the juvenile RUFF (still present near Osprey
pole) two birds flew in from the north giving a strange call. They
eventually landed in the grass out of sight to the west. I walked their
direction and flushed a bird. There ended up being a flock of four birds, 3
were certainly Buffys, while the other appeared smaller and did not land
with the group. I suspect Baird's, but will never know. When I left all 3
Buff-breasted SP were sitting together on the dry mud near the grass line in
the vicinity of the Ruff. Very near where Tom found the first bird
yesterday.
I saw exactly ZERO Dowitchers. Last night I easily saw a hundred. The
Stilt Sandpiper appears to have departed with the Dows. It was still there
last night, actively feeding with the Dows.
