[obol] New Birding Camera

What it is, it appears, is a 3.1 megapixel digital camera mounted in
parallel to the side of a 14x spotting scope. The camera doesn't
shoot through the scope. The 2 devices are simply mounted side-by-
side and aimed at the same point. It's available on Amazon for $479:

I haven't used one, or even seen one, but this device appears to me
to fall into the "gadget" category. There isn't any information
here about shutter lag time, an important consideration for a
"birding camera." For less than $400 one could purchase any of 4
different brands of 18x zoom digital cameras in the 7-8 megapixel
range, with image stabilization. I agree with the previous post that
there are far better choices for a birding camera, and for less money
too.
