Visited Port Orford where it is much windier than Coos Bay. Lots of trees
down over roads, downed powerlines and closed schools along the southern
coast.
Not many birds, but there were probably 50+ BROWN PELICANS scattered over
the town of Port Orford...in bushes, on lawns, on the baseball field and
dead in the road. About half a dozen birds were dead away from roads (i.e
not obvious roadkill) or had broken wings.
Bandon
Scoped a couple gull flocks and saw the usual uncommon species like HERRING,
THAYER'S & BONAPARTE'S. There was a WHIMBREL with gulls on the Bandon HS
football field. Up to 14 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were with pelicans,
rockpipers & gulls in cove east of the south jetty.
Charleston
100+ BROWN PELICANS in a protected cove. There were 24 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS
at Sunset Beach.
It felt like summer traffic with all the people gawking at the ocean to see
the storm & its big waves. I had a transformer explode over my car while
driving under and just missed seeing a traffic light rip off and slam into a
guy's front grill.
Be careful out there,
