12/4 Coos Cty
Heard from Roy Lowe today that Dave Ledig had a SNOW BUNTING at Coquille
Point yesterday, 12/3. Excellent Bandon/Coos Cty bird.
This morning we headed to Shore Acres, Cape Arago, to check for seabirds
and look at the waves. The waves were incredible, monsterous. The
birding was pretty poor due to very poor viewing conditions, couldn't
see out more than 1/4 mile. Had one ANCIENT MURRELET crest the top of a
wave and go up in the horizon, almost like a small shearwater! No
kittiwakes amazingly, lots of loons and scoters moving south. One
murre. Stopped at a few other spots, but didn't see too much. Did find
one Tim Rodenkirk at Pt Adams. This species is more common than the
Russ Namitzs (although the latter is becoming quite common too, so
obvious there has been a bit of a change in distribution), frequently
noted on any day or month as one birds around Coos Bay. So, no surprise
to find this common creature. With the Rodenkirk were two oldsquaws.
Er, um, excuse me, I mean two LONG-TAILED DUCKS were just off the point,
not far from the Rodenkirk. The usual suspect of other water loving
birds were hanging out in the harbor. Nothing else too ususual to
report - again, no phalaropes at all.
Back to cleaning up.
Cheers
