It was kind of a case of the gutter is half full or half empty.  Reading the paper for 45 minutes and glancing at whiles outside there was, at most, a light drizzle..... so alright, grab the binos, leash up the hound and .......heavy rain caught me in minutes. Peccable timing. 
 
But through the  curtain of water I saw, with binos, my first of season Merlin atop a fir.  Glass half full, then.
