You raised a very good question and I had a horrible moment in which I
realized that I had given the photo too casual a look. That is easy to do.
Thank you for raising the point. There are probably as many winter records
of Brambling in Oregon as there are of Black-headed Grosbeak, and the colors
are similar. Brambling is larger than most of our wintering sparrows, too.
This, by the way, is the latest grosbeak I know of for Lane Co.
