A COMMON LOON drifted by our house this morning (12/7), on the Willamette, about twenty yards out. Another visitor, so predictable the last few winters that it has seemed hardly worth mentioning, was a BLACK PHOEBE. It's been hanging around for a couple months, covering a range that includes all of Peoria and extends across the river-an area some thousand yards in diameter. A second Black Phoebe is back at Snag Boat Bend, where it has been regular for several years, and A WESTERN GREBE was on the river there, on Wednesday (12/5).

Last, and late, but not least, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK flew directly over our house, two weeks ago (11/27), some thirty yards up.

Oh-and there was a nice, bright, WESTERN BLUEBIRD in the Corvallis Home Depot parking lot this afternoon. It was near their yard improvement section, but I already have them on my list.
