Robin Gage and I did the raptor run in Lane and Linn Counties between Coburg
and Harrisburg December 13.
Along the way, we stopped at the RV park on Van Duyn Road to check on the
status of the Falcated Duck. It has not been seen there this year.
The weather was a bit foggy, but not as bad as last month. It cleared up
quite a bit as time went on. Temperatures were in the mid 30s. There was
very little wind. A few newborn lambs were in the fields, and Bald Eagle
numbers were up - although none of the ones we found were sitting in fields
with lambs. Only one eagle was on the ground in a field, but this
vast field had no other wildlife or farmlife in it that we could see.
We spent 4 hours and 15 minutes and drove 75.1 miles.
Results:
19 Red-tailed Hawk
38 American Kestrel
3 Northern Harrier
7 Bald Eagle
1 Peregrine Falcon
