Hello OBOLers,
Held the 10th consecutive Illinios Valley CBC yesterday (Sunday, 12/16).
The weather was cold in the morning and a strong, cold rain began
about 2:30pm. But we are grateful the storm held til the afternoon
and allowed good birding conditions.
11 counters (thank you all very much) recorded 93 species and 7,944
individuals (both #s about average for the 10 yrs.). Results are preliminary.
New birds to the count are Common Goldeneye, Horned Grebe and Lark
Sparrow. Other good birds (not found regularly on the IV count) are
White-Fronted Goose, Gadwall and Lewis' Woodpecker. Obvious misses
include Greater Scaup (regular on Lake Selmac), Ruffed Grouse,
Western Screech Owl, Yellow-Rumped Warbler and House Sparrow.
Best, Romain
