OBOL:
Carol & I arrived at the now-famous Barendse Rd. bridge over Blind Slough
near Brownsmead ~ 11:30 today, 12/22/07, in the rain. We met Bill Tweit of
Washington there. He had seen the Arctic Loon about 8-9 AM, then gone off
to do other birding.
While we were talking, his passenger said, "There's the bird now." We were
able to follow the ARCTIC LOON as it fed its way down stream to the west,
along the slough, on Pentilla Rd.
We birded the Brownsmead area from noon to 2:30 and found:
Northern Harrier, Bald Eagle,White-tailed Kite, Red-tailed Hawks, Peregrine
Falcon, Merlin, and Kestrels.
Mid-way along Jackson Rd., off Pentilla Rd. we found a BLACK PHOEBE.
Beyond Brownsmead on Fish Rd., we found a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW in a flock
of juncos and golden-crowned sparrows, plus a RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER.
Back at the boat ramp on Blind Slough about 2:30 PM we saw a Bald Eagle, and
a flock of 25 Greater WHITE-FRONTED GEESE.
Good birding and Merry Christmas,
Paul T. Sullivan &
Carol Karlen
