Obolers,
While watching an English movie on a cold rainy Oregon day, a water bird
swam by our floating home. Its profile did not match the common birds seen
here ducks, grebes, geese, but maybe a (white throated?) cormorant. Upon
review of my photos compared to ref books Red-throated Loon wins. Photos
available to those more skilled at Loon ID and anyone curious.
Happy New Year to all from West Hayden Island Moorage. Our moorage is
located on the south side of Hayden Island near the BNSF railroad bridge
that separates developed Hayden Island from the undeveloped West end. We
are a gated community (limited access) but the North Portland Harbor channel
is easily viewed from W. Marine Drive.
The Island has been in the news recently after the Port of Portland, owner
of the West end of the island, announced plans to develop what is now a
haven for many species of birds and wildlife. For more info visit
