Reports of the birds seen on the Washington side of today's
Sauvie Island CBC are just starting to show up. The male MOUNTAIN
BLUEBIRD was seen by Arden Hagen who also relocated both the RED-THROATED
LOON and the NORTHERN SHRIKE in the Vancouver Lake Lowlands.
This was the first year in the last 31 Sauvie Island CBC's that I
have not been the co-compiler for the Washington side and it gave me a
chance to do some exploring for birds in areas not covered by any
parties. visited during prior counts and the best bird my wife and I
found was a PACIFIC LOON just upstream of the railroad bridge on the
Lewis River. We joined up with Arden and Gary Sechee at Vancouver Lake to
watch as the SHORT-EARED OWLS began to fly after dusk.
