On Thursday, an hour looking at wetlands on private land in S. Scappoose Bay
in Columbia County yielded mostly PINTAILS (several hundred), but also
MALLARDS, G-W TEALS, AM. WIDGEONS, GADWALLS, DUSKY (4 with orange collars)
AND CANADA GEESE, TUNDRA SWANS, G-B HERONS, GREAT EGRETS (3), COMMON
MERGANSERS, one pair HOODED MERGANSERS, BALD EAGLES (2), HARRIER & REDTAILS,
& lots of ROBINS. No shorebirds except KILLDEER. I also saw Henry Horvat's
reported 100 or so SNOW GEESE on the Scappoose bottomlands. This time they
were visible from the "owl corner" east of the yellow house. Saw two groups
of deer on the bottomlands too, kinda unusual, among the hybrid poplar rows.
