This morning, Saturday 3 Feb. 2007, at about 1030am I stopped by the previously described location in the Gainesborough Subdivision off of Irving Rd. to see if the FALCATED DUCK was still present. It was present with six American Wigeon in the "man-made" water feature on the right-hand (NE) side of the street, approximately 50 yards away from the street. This is close to where the street crosses the water close to the entrance to the development's RV-parking area.
Directions from Interstate-5: Go west on Belt Line Rd. 2 or 3 miles to the Northwest Expressway off ramp. Go north on Northwest Expressway approximately 1/4 mile to Irving Rd., the first traffic light. Go east on Irving Rd. to the second street to the right. The first street to the right leads into Glen Haven Subdivision, which you do not want to enter. Well, you can enter if you want, but the FADU is not there. The next street to the right is the one you want if you want to see the FADU. I do not remember the name of the street, but you will see an electronically operated gate that typically is open from 9am to 5pm. Turn into the subdivision and bear to the right. After going one block or so, take the first street that turns to the right ("something" Bridge). You will see that the street you are on will shortly cross a little body of water before it dead-ends into another gate (separating Gainesborough from Glen Haven) and an RV-parking area. The residents have put up a sign that is helpful in directing you where you might walk in order to see this bird. (I did not have to get out of my car).
