A female Rufous Hummingbird turned up at our feeder this afternoon.
The rufous color in the tail was clearly visible as she hovered just
outside of my window. A male Anna's and two female Anna's have been
regular at our feeders all winter, but this is the earliest that I
have ever seen Rufous here. Hope she sticks around for awhile but the
male Anna's keeps close watch on both feeders. He even tries to drive
away the Ruby-crowned Kinglets or Townsend's Warblers that come too
close, especially if they take a moment to rest on one of the feeders
or sit on the hook the feeder hangs from.
