Hello all,

First of all I would like to say thank you to all of
you that post messages on OBOL. Every day I look
forward to getting the new messages so I can see what
is happening around the state.
I am planning on making a trip to the Astoria area and
down to Cannon Beach during the shorebird migration
this spring and am wondering when the best time is to
be there. I've heard that mid April is a great time
for shorebirds, but you all would know better than me.
While I'm there I would also like to try for some
other birds that I've never seen before. If anyone
has info on any good spots for even one of these
birds, I would appreciate the help. below are the
birds I would really love to see:

American Bittern
White-tailed Kite
American Golden-Plover
Pacific Golden-Plover
Snowy Plover
Black Oystercatcher
Ruddy Turnstone
Wandering Tattler
Surfbird
Rock Sandpiper
Red Knot
Sanderling
Short-billed Dowitcher
Red Phalarope
Jaeger Species
Ancient Murrelet
Cassin's Auklet
Band-tailed Pigeon
Acorn Woodpecker
Hutton's Vireo
Wrentit

I realize that some of these might be very difficult,
if not impossible to find in a short trip to the
coast, but I'll be happy with whatever I can find.
Again, thank you to all for the invaluable
contributions you make to the birding community. I
read your posts with a bit of envy for the great place
in which you live and bird.

Good birding,

Spencer Walters
