This afternoon, Carol Ledford and I birded for a bit
at Sauvie Island before heading up to Scappose
Bottoms. It was fairly dry until about 3-3:30pm.
Highlites were:
1) About 4pm today we saw a Eurasian Collared-Dove at
Scappose Bottoms at 50701 Dike Road (Dikeside RV
Storage). There are feeders on the N side of this
building. One Dove was first seen on a utility wire
over their driveway, then we noticed more around the
feeders to the N side of the front building. In all we
counted 9 Eurasian Collared-Doves. We never got out
of the car. The Doves eventually scattered for some
reason, and as we left to continue Northerly we saw
some about a block N on utility wires.
2) Earlier on Sauvie Island we saw several Bald
Eagles and one was way up in a leafless tree, plucking
and eating a Coot.
3) There are still Thousands of Snow Geese on Sauvie
Island. We saw them at the viewing platform on Reeder
Road and also out Rentenaar Road
4) We also saw a Coyote that was eating a Mallard
while about 40 Crows waited patiently nearby.
