Interesting that today (02-17-07) is the first day PINE SISKINS have been at our thistle feeder (just east of Merlin I-5 exit; Josephine Co) for some time.
Also, just now foraging on sunflower seeds on our deck was a SLATE-COLORED JUNCO; first I have seen this winter (we have lots of Juncos). Appeared to be a male, perhaps last-years fledgling (some brown to back). Not much of a distinction of a hood as with Oregon Juncos. Sides were dark as with normal Slates. Could be one of those Canadian Rocky Mtn types. ...another one for Greg to ponder.
