Canby Harris' Sparrow Clackamas County
I did get a great view of the HARRIS' SPARROW today at 1:10 pm. It appeared after a rain shower and just as the sun came out. The timid WHITE-THROATED SPARROW also became braver and was visible at the same time. With the great lighting both were easily distinguished from the GOLDEN-CROWNS, even with the naked eye.
The only tips I can offer for a prospective viewer are to follow Rudi's directions posted on Friday the 17th; (woodenapple) and be prepared to do some quiet and lengthy standing, OR SITTING, if you're wise enough to take along a lawn chair like Tim Janzen. I logged about 2.5 hours of standing time for my two sightings since Saturday.
Other less seen sparrows found lately in area were at nearby Molalla River State Park: a LINCOLN SPARROW near the boat landing and a CHIPPING SPARROW in the flock which is usually near the park entrance. Neither were seen today. Good Luck! Al Ahlgrim
Vielen Dank Rudi
