OBOL:

19 participants joined me for an Audubon Birding Weekend trip to Curry 
county (sponsored by Audubon Society of Portland), Feb. 17-19, 2007.  Don 
Munson was good enough to join us for on Saturday in the southern end of the 
county.  Thanks, Don.

On Saturday we visited Harris Beach St. Pk., Harbor, and the area up to 
Pistol River.  The weather was brisk but sunny.

Highlights:
EMPEROR GOOSE - Harris Beach St. Pk.
EURASIAN WIGEON - pond south of the mouth of Pistol River
SHOVELER - pond east of the mouth of Pistol River
CANVASBACK - pond south of the mouth of Pistol River
LONG-TAILED DUCK - mouth of the Chetco R.
RUDDY DUCK - pond south of the mouth of Pistol River
WHITE-TAILED KITE - Oceanview Dr., Brookings, & Pistol R.
PEREGRINE FALCON - Winchuck R., Pistol River (3-4 birds)
TURKEY VULTURE - a few at scattered locations
RUDDY TURNSTONE - Chetco R. jetty
BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE - Chetco R. jetty
GLAUCOUS GULL - mouth of Pistol R.
EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE - Oceanview Dr., S of Brookings
RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD - Pistol River
WRENTIT - Pistol River

On Sunday we visited Gold Beach, the Rogue River, Euchre Creek, and Port 
Orford.  We had a few showers, but mostly sunny skies.

Highlights:
WOOD DUCK - Port Orford
GREAT EGRET - Gold Beach
WESTERN SCREECH OWL - 6 miles up Rogue River
N. SAW-WHET OWL - 6 miles up Rogue River
SORA - Garrison Lk. Port Orford
HUTTON'S VIREO - Humbug Mt. St. Pk - in direct comparison to R.c. Kinglet
TOWNSEND'S WARBLER - Humbug Mt. St. Pk.

Monday we visited Port Orford harbor, Cape Blanco, & Floras Lk.  The day was 
overcast, with a chilly wind, but no significant rain.

Highlights:

RED-NECKED GREBE - Port Orford harbor
GREAT EGRET - Cape Blanco, lower Sixes R.
WILD TURKEY - Cape Blanco
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK - Hwy 101 N of Sixes R.
WHITE-TAILED KITE - Cape Blanco, lower Sixes R.
VIRGINIA RAILS - Cape Blanco marsh
HERMIT THRUSH - Cape Blanco
RED CROSSBILL - Cape Blanco, lower Sixes R.

We saw lots of  BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS, many BLACK PHOEBES, and several 
WRENTITS through the weekend.  We found NO swallows.

Our total list was 105 species.  I saw 7 species I'd never seen in Curry 
county before.

The next Audubon Birding Weekend will visit the refuges of the Willamette 
Valley, Mar. 17-18.
