[obol] Scrub jays burying rocks

My friend Barbara West recently observed at very close range a scrub JAY
carefully carrying small stones in its bill up onto her roof and poking them
into small openings under the composition shingles. Barbara was on the
second floor looking out the window only a couple of feet from the jay and
could be certain that what was being "buried" were pebbles, not seeds of any
kind.

Is this some kind of mirror-season "nut burying" activity analogous to the
October carry-and-bury routine? I have never seen this in spring. I'd be
interested in whether this is a documented occurrence.
