Our number of VARIED THRUSHES has doubled in size since previous years.
We easily have 18 this year. January was the the first time we've ever
seen them use hanging feeders and this is the first season that we've
seen one very aggressive male guard the dish of rolled oats. He chases
away Steller's Jays, other thrushes, juncos and sparrows from the dish.
As these other birds come into his circle, he puts his head down and
tail up. You can see he means business. We've never seen this guarding
behavior in the past nor have we seen them use hanging feeders.
