Yesterday while driving the lower Miami-Foley road I watched an adult plumage red-tailed hawk stoop on a great blue heron in a field, forcing the latter to give up a mouse which the hawk quickly appropriated. Based on my observations, the mousing talents of great blue herons are equal to if not superior to that of most raptors, so I wonder if this is a common occurrence. I believe the red-tail to have been a resident bird on territory.
