[obol] not digiscoping cameras!

Want to digiscope? Beware.
Those who've taken Clay Taylor's Swarovski Digiscoping Workshops will know that cameras with more than 4x zoom power (2-3 is optimal) will either not capture a usable image of the subject in the scope, or may produce such a large vignette area (black margin ring) as to be useless. Similarly, cameras with larger diameter lenses.. i.e. wider than the entire eyepiece dia., usually will not work.. not much you can do with a photo of your eyepiece! "John R." at Leupold (I'm afraid to misspell it), their birding laison , has one of their short scopes set-up to work with large-lensed 35mm DSLR's. He might have this available.. not sure. Other than that, I wouldn't purchase one of these cameras hoping to digiscope. I'm trying to save you the disappointment. There are large trade-offs in digiscoping. It's powerful with high quality equipment, but bulky, finicky and slow to set up and aim, and forget about birds in flight. But it will gather more light for a faster shutter speed than a much smaller objective-lens digital zoom camera.
