Fourteen participants joined Adrienne and me for a pleasant but chilly morning walking the woods trail at the Carty Unit of Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge this morning from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Fog and a heavy frost combined with a temperature of 29 degrees to keep land bird activity slow. Waterfowl viewing from this trail is limited. Aerial waterfowl--no doubt stirred up by the almost constant discharge of shotguns--were only occasionally visible through the fog. In spite of the conditions, we managed to eke out 31 species, listed below. Probably the best sighting was of 4 River Otters fishing as a group and emerging at the edge of a pond reasonably close by.
