the state. Thought I would pass along a tip about a newer place in
Oakridge. It is called the "Trailhead Cafe." It is on the south side of
the road just as you enter Oakridge from the west on Hwy 58. We stopped for
breakfast this morning following a tour of the Deception Creek area looking
for grouse and Mtn. Quail.

They have an assortment of breakfast choices, including items you can't find
anywhere else in Oakridge (which I have found to be a little restaurant
challenged). I had a Greek scramble which was very good, Jennie had huevos
rancheros which she gave excellent reviews and my daughter Lucy stuck to her
standard French toast. The coffee was robust and delicious (not the typical
diner variety provided by Boyds). I highly recommend the home fries which
had a nice Mexican seasoning and were well browned and not mushy (the way I
like them). The general ambiance is on the "earthy" end of the spectrum and
the other patrons were the same. For Eugenians, I would call this place a
cross between the Glenwood and the Keystone, with food quality and selection
on par with the Glenwood.

If you happen to be passing this way give this place a try. It will
probably need the support of travelers to survive because it is not the type
of place that will appeal to most of the locals.

bon appetit,

Dave Irons
