Obolites, Camp Sherman was very birdy this weekend. Highlights were A GOSHAWK perching on one of our hammock trees, a PACIFIC SLOPE FLYCATCHER in the yard singing and actively feeding [this is only my second in ten years of birding here] CROSSBILLS singing and coming to the feeder, not usual, TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE making it's rusty hinge call, and locating a WHITE HEADED WOODPECKER'S nest. [The nest is easily found- take the gravel road south or upstream from the Camp Sherman store .7 mi. , turn left or walk up a connecting road about 100 yd. The nest is in a large Ponderosa Pine snag about 3 ft from the ground.] In addition to the PS FC I found WILLOW FC along Lake Creek , DUSKY FC on Tract C Lane, and PEWEES all along the river. A few miles away at the Metolius Preserve HAMMOND'S FC are easily found, OLIVE SIDED FC, are usually near the store and GRAY FC are reliable on Stevens Canyon Rd. Warblers are still singing and I completed a Nuthatch trifecta. A DOWNY WOODPECKER appeared
at our feeder, which is much less common than HAIRY WP, about a 1/10 ratio. Bird on, Bob Bender Eugene & C.S.
