Hello,

We are coming to Portland in August for a wedding, and will put in some
birding in Oregon. We have birded all over North America (and all over
the world, for that matter) and the list of regularly occurring landbirds
in North America that my girlfriend is still missing is very short, and
actually more than half of them can be found in Oregon in summer.
Our wish list is

 Dusky Grouse
 Sooty Grouse
 Mountain Quail
 Northern Pygmy-Owl
 Williamson's Sapsucker
 Cassin's Vireo (don't laugh)
 Black Rosy-Finch

This includes four lifers for her and one for me (Dusky Grouse, which was
not yet a species when I last birded in the West.)
We have about a week to find these birds. I know that some of these birds
are difficult to find in August when they're not calling, which is why I
need your help.
I have the Evanich book (1990), but I don't know how much of it is still
valid. There is an enormous amount of information on the Web, but it
is not sorted by species, so it takes a lot of work to extract the
useful information.
I saw the Rosy Finch on Steens Mountain in 1993 (lovely place, looking
forward to seeing it again) and I need confirmation that they're still
around ; I assume there is no other place for Black Rosy-Finch closer
than Wyoming. I have only the vaguest ideas of where and how to find
the other species.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
