N. Spit of Coos Bay, PM, cloudy, 70F, winds < 10mph,
highlights:
a female GREEN-WINGED TEAL with 7 recently fledged
chicks (2nd breeding record for Coos Co.)
Nine WILSON'S PHALAROPES, not exactly sure on the
numbers but there were at least two adults and the
rest were recently fledged young (4th yr they have
bred here, the 3rd yr they successfully fledged young)
about a dozen scaup, mostly GREATER SCAUP but at least
4 LESSER SCAUP. They have oversummered almost every
yr since I began birding on the spit.
No sign of a female N. SHOVELER with chicks although
there is a male hanging out.
One lone male N. PINTAIL.
Many RING-NECKED DUCKS around, no chicks yet though.
Shorebirds:
1- SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER
1- GREATER YELLOWLEGS
7- WESTERN SANDPIPERS
many SPOTTED SANDPIPERS (breeders here)
Have fun!
